Cruising Fleet

IMG 0202Thank you for visiting the web page of the Erie Yacht Club Cruising Fleet. If you are a current member welcome back and please check out our planned boating and social activities. If you are not a member of the Cruising Fleet, let us tell you about ourselves to see if you might be interested in joining us.

Organized in the winter of 2016, we are a friendly group of individuals that enjoy being on the water for a weekend or longer cruise, or a social get together on the shore. Our goal is to provide a positive experience of camaraderie among new and seasoned members in social and cruising activities. Although many members have a boat, power or sail, it is not a perquisite to be a member of the cruising fleet. Our cruises will consist of both local and long distance rendezvous that will include; picnics, raft-ups, day trips and weekend trips. We may plan a theme cruise, a flotilla to local restaurants for dinner, a raft up at 8 Great Tuesdays or Beach 10 or 11. Participation in other Club events such as the Bay Swim, Frolic on the Bay and the Charity Regatta are also planned.

All are invited to join the fun. If you have not cruised before, this group is for you. You will be able to learn from experienced cruisers and learn what’s important to plan for a safe trip for you and your crew. We are well on our way to a fun and exciting boating summer!

The Erie Yacht Club Bridge and Board generously underwrites the activities of the EYC Cruising Fleet, in addition, we collect an annual Participation Fee of $50 for first year Cruisers and $35 for renewals. Checks made out to “EYC CRUISING FLEET” (not EYC) can be dropped at the EYC Club Office, Attention Dave Wagner, with a note stating that it is for EYC Cruising Fleet. Leave your name, phone and email, too so we can add you to our notices of activities. Any EYC member can attend EYC Cruising Fleet events but the Fee must be current in order to travel with the Fleet. The Fleet uses these funds to provide complimentary appetizers and snacks at various parties and Fleet gatherings and always hosts a Fleet sponsored Happy Hour upon arrival at a cruising destination. Paid members always receive a discount on costs of various Cruiser events such as picnics and parties.

  • TUESDAY-CRUISE-DAY-In 2019 The Fleet established a monthly social called Cruise-Day Tuesday. These events will be held on the third Tuesday of the month unless otherwise announced. What a great way to keep in touch with fellow Cruisers and meet new friends and new Club members as well. In the winter months, they will be held in the EYC Grill Room. Once the boating season starts, there will be varied activities, such as picnics, dinner cruises and rotating dock parties. All are invited. Come join us!
  • On March 19, members of the Fleet gathered in the EYC Grill Room bar for its first Cruise-Day Tuesday event. Light appetizers, which were enjoyed by all, were provided by the Fleet. It was fun to reconnect, swap stories about the long cold winter and start planning for the upcoming boating season.

  • April 16 saw another Cruise-Day Tuesday in the EYC Grill Room Lounge. A great group of Cruisers reported that they had an outstanding time talking about winter travel and new boats. Lots of laughs and camaraderie was shared!

  • SEASON KICK-OFF PICNIC: May 23, 2019 (a Thursday due to a conflict on Tuesday) the Fleet gathered for the third annual season kick-off picnic on the Yacht Club Deck. Tons of plans afoot for the upcoming boating season, plus prayers that the weather cooperates this season for our upcoming activities!

  • NOOSA TUESDAY-CRUISE DAY SUNSET DINNER CRUISE: Tentatively on June 18, we will plan to cruise to NOOSA Restaurant at the North East Marina. Dave and Julie Sanner are coordinating this Sunset Dinner Cruise. More information will be forthcoming but we will likely depart the EYC Lighthouse 1715hrs (5:15pm). We will leave together and rendezvous at the North East Marina at approx. 1745 hrs. (5:45pm.) • In July, August and September, the plan is that EYC Cruise-Day Tuesday will rotate throughout our EYC docks hosted by various EYC Cruising Fleet members. The Cruise-Day Tuesday dates for summer 2019 are July 16, August 20 and September 17. It is hoped that one of these Cruise-Day Tuesday events will include the EYC Racing Fleet for a a joint powerboat/sailboat evening with shared sailboat and powerboat rides followed by a picnic.

  • At least one more summer raft off will take place in last August or early September.

  • VENETIAN NIGHT: August 3, 2019- start dreaming up the decorations for the Boat Decorating Contest and Lighted Boat Parade. A fun party with delicious food and a great band too, all rolled into one! Club-wide Power and Sail invited to this one and ALL EYC members invited to join the fun. It will be hard to top last year’s winners, “Under the Sea” by Jason and Vickie Grinarml on Knot So Fast and “Happy Days” by Bob and Dianne Cunningham on Richiesea!

  • CHILI COOK-OFF and HOLIDAY COCKTAIL (or maybe BOAT TALES?) PARTY: On October 15 we will convene for the Chili Cook-off and on November 19 we will end the season with our Holiday Cocktail Party. An entire season of Cruise-day Tuesday events...don’t miss them!

  • Other Summer plans include:

  • Dover - Brad and Karen Carns have volunteered to be coordinators of a trip to Dover sometime in mid-July.

  • Mystery Trip - This idea was suggested last year and Kathy Wagner has volunteered to coordinate (and surprise us) with a mystery trip sometime in August. This will likely be a one night or day trip but we need to wait and find out what she has in store for us.

  • Cleveland Labor Day Air Show - Pam and Dave Davis had such a wonderful time last year on their trip to the Airshow that they have offered to coordinate the trip for next year.

  • A day trip to Barcelona was discussed...anyone interested in planning this one?

  • Sometimes the best trips and parties are spontaneous. All Cruisers are encouraged to spread the word and include other boaters in last minute raft-up plans or trips which are not already on our calendar. Heading to Marina Lake to grill dinner? Invite some Cruisers to join you and make it a pot luck!

    Lots more fun in store!!!
